A Creative Pregnancy Announcement in Halifax
Getting creative & finding ways to make photoshoots unique and special to who you are is my absolute favourite! This sweet pregnancy announcement shoot at Props Floral in Halifax was no exception. This documentary style shoot was the perfect way to share the exciting news with their families. Here's how it went down...
Blossoming Love: The Story Behind the Photoshoot
This sweet couple reached out to me asking to do a pregnancy announcement in April and wanted to incorporate flowers. There weren’t a lot of flowers in bloom yet in Nova Scotia in April, but I really wanted to make it work.
In discussing it with my family, we came up with the idea of using a floral shop as the location. So I reached out to the couple to see if there were any cute floral shops near their home. Not only was there a floral shop nearby, but Props Florals actually did their wedding florals & they get flowers there on a weekly basis. This added an emotional connection to the shoot that I was hoping for!

I knew what I had to do next, so I picked up the phone & asked them if they were interested in being a part of this special announcement. I held my breath as I waited for the answer, knowing the couple were so excited about this idea (and so was I). Thankfully, the owner was super keen to let us use their location as the setting for the shoot. Hurrah! We were good to go!
Crafting the Story: A Tale of Blooms and Beginnings
As a candid & storyteller photographer, I wanted to find a way to incorporate the flowers into the story of their announcement, rather than just the location. We talked about the storyline - a couple coming in to the shop to get a bouquet, her bump not yet visible. Then, they choose some pink flowers, some blue flowers, then a kiss where you see her little bump! When they build the bouquet it's wrapped up in a newspaper announcement of their growing family.
Celebrating Life's Moments: A Beautiful Story in Photographs
All the little details, the connection of the location to the couple, and the beautiful setting, made for a beautiful story told through photographs, celebrating this exciting time in their lives.
I truly love it when I am able to work with my clients, learn about them, their family, and then craft a creative idea that showcases who they are in their photos. This process of storytelling is one with deep connection, capturing core memories, to be looked back on.
