When people think The Little Mermaid photoshoot, the default is obviously the beach. But let's think a little outside of the box & hunt for treasure!
The Treasure Hunt Before the Tide
Instead of going straight to the sand, imagine starting your day in the cutest little antique shop. Give each family member, even the littlest ones, a few dollars and tell them to find one tiny treasure that speaks to them.
It could be a seashell-shaped trinket dish, an old compass, a brass key, or a faded glass bottle.
If I know anything about kids, it is that they love tiny treasures. The joy they get from spotting the one is worth photographing all on its own. And the tinier the better!
We have some cute antique shops near Windsor, including Avon River Antiques and Sunnyhill Antiques (I actually get a lot of my photography props from them, they are awesome!).
Golden Hour by the Sea
Once your treasures are in hand, head to the beach just before golden hour. While the South Shore of Nova Scotia might be best known for their sandy beaches, here in West Hants we also have some beautiful options!
I'd suggest heading to Avonport Beach to lay out a cozy blanket on the sand, set your finds in the center, and just be. Play. Dig your toes in the sand. Let the wind tangle your hair.
This is not about posing perfectly. It is about creating a memory. A real one.
The Magic of Memory-Making
Years from now, you might still have those tiny treasures sitting on a shelf in your home. When you see it, you will not just think about the object, but remember that day: the antique shop’s creaky wooden floor, the sunlight on the water, the way your kids laughed while showing off their finds.
That is what makes a shoot like this special. It is not just a themed photoshoot. It is a little family adventure.
