If you’ve ever been up editing galleries way past your bedtime thinking… how do people have time for this?! this one’s for you.
If you're working a 9-5 (or a mom - so uh working 24/7), you likely only have maybe(?) 10 hours a week to spend on your photography business, unless you're staying up way too late (been there!).
I don't know about you, but if I just make a to-do list, I could spend hours on one task I actually want to do and move the rest to tomorrow's list.
To fix this, I use a strategy called time blocking.
It's basically scheduled chunks of time in my calendar to spend on regular weekly tasks for my business.
Here is an example of a 10h photographer work week:
Sunday (2 hours)
Family photoshoot with travel time.
Monday (2 hours)
Editing night.
Edit using my Lightroom sync workflow and aim to cull, edit, and export one full gallery.
Tuesday (1 hour)
Client communication and planning.
Use templates and schedule future emails to save time.
Wednesday (1 hour)
Marketing hour.
Use Canva bulk create to make multiple posts and schedule them (can do both with Canva Pro).
Thursday (2 hours)
Editing night.
Edit using my Lightroom sync workflow and aim to cull, edit, and export one full gallery.
Friday (1 hour)
Client communication and planning.
Send out your galleries & reply to unanswered emails. Schedule emails so you aren't sending them late at night or on the weekend (unless you need to).
Saturday (1 hour)
Brainstorm night.
It's Saturday, so pop on your favorite show, grab a tasty snack, a pen and paper (or your notes app) & brainstorm a few content ideas for social media, research new poses for your next shoot, or make a list of shoots you'd love to do!
It’s not about hustling all the time. It’s about building momentum within your reality.
If you’re balancing a job, kids, or just limited time, this is a strategy you can use today to grow your business strategically and within your own boundaries.
